The Saturn Awards is the official awards arm of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films. Founded in 1972 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the Academy is dedicated to honoring the finest achievements in genre entertainment.
The organization was established by Donald A. Reed, a lifelong genre enthusiast and renowned authority on Count Dracula. Dr. Reed’s passion for these often-overlooked genres fueled the Academy’s growth from its inception until his passing in 2001.
Today, that legacy is carried forward by a dedicated leadership team, including President Robert Holguin, film/TV producer Mark Altman, and writer-producers Bradley and Kevin Marcus, who have produced the Saturn Awards for over 25 years.
With a vibrant membership base in Los Angeles and across the globe, the Academy screens nearly 100 films annually for award consideration and promotional events. Our members play a vital role in the industry, voting each year to recognize the artists who bring science fiction, fantasy, and horror to life.
